2022-2023 HSA Meeting Minutes

LV HSA Minutes 9/21/22  

In Attendance: Gretchen, Jamie, Tiffany, Erin, Becky, Rachel, Lee plus 11 attendees (including  2 teachers) 

President’s Report:  

Gretchen went over the calendar of events for the year: 

• She explained that next week’s Fun Run is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we are  hoping to raise $7,500 as we did last year.  

• She also alerted the crowd to the upcoming need for donations in November for teacher  conferences.  

• Rand Whipple’s assembly was added to the calendar for February 10th.

• It was brought to attention that the selected date for the Spring bookfair cannot be a BOGO  book sale. The date will need to be later or the book sale cannot be BOGO. Erin to follow up  after our fall book sale is completed.  

• The student raffle, spearheaded by Liz McDonough, has been penciled in for April. Tickets  will be sold before school and at lunch. It was recommended that teachers be able to award  tickets for good behavior also. 

Treasurer Report  

Tiffany went over the proposed budget for the group. She itemized our income opportunities as  well as our expenditures. The budget balances and no concerns were raised. It was  recommended that we look into Wendy’s and/or Friendly’s as fundraising opportunities.  

Upcoming Events  

Fun Run is on track to be successful next week. No volunteers needed. Everyone sang the  praises of being able to donate via Paypal. 

The book fair is on track to be a success the first week of October. Family Night is set. No  volunteers needed. 

Fall Festival is in the works. Jamie is the captain of that ship and needs many many volunteers. 

• Jamie reminded the group that volunteers must have their clearances. 

• Gretchen recommended that each teacher send digital instructions on how to complete clearances to parents.  

• Links are also posted on the LV webpage under “parents” 

• Recruitment began for one parent from each grade to help organize volunteers and activities.  Jamie also requested a parent volunteer to shadow her in order to take over managing the Fall Festival next year. 

• Volunteers are needed early (6:30-7:00am) on the day of to make popcorn 

• Jamie also needs at least 50 volunteers for the afternoon of October 27 to help the festival  run smoothly. 

Teachers said that the Fall Festival scarecrows create unique challenges for them. They  requested that the theme be changed to “Classic Scarecrow” and that a parent volunteer be  arranged for each classroom. Everyone agreed to these changes. Jamie and Gretchen will  work on soliciting parent volunteers sooner than later. 

Principal’s Update  

Mr Gump outlined the progress that has been made on LV construction as well as what needs  to happen still. He warned the group that as the AC/heating systems are installed, classes will  systematically be displaced for up to 2 weeks. 

Mr Gump also acknowledged the HSA’s request for teachers' presence at meetings. He has  contacted teachers about this and hopes to have at least one teacher per grade at each  meeting.  

LV is in need of substitute teachers and para professionals. 

LV is assessing the effectiveness of current report cards. Parent opinions could be solicited in  the future by way of a parent night or survey.  

Open Comments  

It was asked if LV has Narcan onsite. It does.  

Discussion arose over how to access news on the DPS app. One must click “news”.
